Suggested by the great Jimmy Stewart movie. "Bell, Book, and Candle". Love those old time movies. :-)

  1. Jimmy Stewart, Kim Novak, Jack Lemmon, Ernie Kovacs, Hermione Gingold, 1958, based on Broadway play. Columbia Pictures.

Novak is witch in Greenwich Village where she has a small store. She falls for Stewart, a neighbor, who is marring an old college enemy of hers. Casts a spell on Stewart but later regrets this and informs him she is a witch but loves him. He rejects her. She gets mad but can’t do anything as she has lost her powers because she loves him. (that’s what happens to witches when they love a “mortal”). Sad, sweet, movie, with some funny parts with Lemmon as Novak’s warlock brother and Gingold as Novak’s aunt and a great “beat” style music number. All’s well in the end.

A real pleasant movie especially as it is Stewart’s last film as a romantic lead. Well worth seeing. Usually around the fall, Christmas time as it takes place in NYC around Christmas. Used as a basis, along with other stories, for TVs “Bewitched”.
