I am restarting this Blog which as been dormant for about 8 years. This blog will generally be a site for the posting of my personal artwork: using Watercolors, Pen and Ink, Urban Sketching and beginning Acrylics. I'll also add links to some of my favorite art sites and perhaps discussions of on-line and local area art/artists

Boat on Water - CPM April 2014
Have found a new drawing competition at Colored Pencil Magazine site. Each month they will post a photo and using colored pencils draw and then submit your rendition of the photo. This is a lot of fun. You get feedback and there are even prizes, discounts on supplies etc etc. Check them out. This is my take on this months photo titled "Boat on the Water". You do have to join Flicker in order to play but it is another place to get your art out to the public.

IF - Disguise 01/24/14
Yes I know I have been off the site for a long time. But with the holidays I was just too busy to get anything else done. So, New Years resolution: I will post at least once a month.
A big deal here in Eureka Springs this month was the first annual Independent Film Festival. It was a great success, lots of entries, a wide variety of subjects and film makers. Looks like it will be a fine addition to things going on the ES. This is the FB page for the festival. www.facebook.com/eurekaspringsfilm.

IF-Onomatopoeia - Clickety Clack
OK. I was pretty sure I knew the word but looked it up to make sure before I committed to this. Anyway, if you have ever ridden on a train you know the clickety clack sound of the wheels running on the rails. This is caused by the shifting of the rails at the junction point of two rails meeting. Not very romantic but the whole train travel experience must be taken as a whole for it to work at all. After ridding the rails in Europe for a number of years I'm sorry to say that the system in the US is barely ride-able and needs a Major overhaul.

IF - Storm 2/8/13
This is a typical streamline analysis weather chart of a double typhoon in the Pacific. Streamline analysis is the methodology used by the forecaster to analyse the wind direction/speed/RH and temperature for areas of the tropics where observed data is very sparse. The advent of satellite data has greatly improved our ability to track storms across vast areas of the ocean. Tracking the movement of the areas of cyclonic (C) and anti-cyclonic (A) circulations and refining the analysis with satellite data the forecaster can predict the movements of these storms across the oceans continuing to refine the forecast as the storms near land areas which allow for additional data from land stations to assist in analysis and forecasting.

Well, I saw the new subject for this week and the song started playing. And I said no, surly I can come up with something different. But the noise just continued and only stopped when I did the drawing. So enjoy, comments and ideas always welcome just don't step on my blue swede shoes. :-)

IF - Shade
Well this is a big change for me having mainly worked in pen and ink. Hats off to everyone who works with colored pencil. I have been wanting to try it out and have spent some time looking at the YouTube videos for tips and techniques. So with St. Patrick's day this week I decided to try a Green Man style of drawing with a shade of green. So enjoy, as always comments and ideas welcome.
